Breathe Right SG was launched last month in Singapore by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of The Art of Living, with a single ambition: to bring this skill to every Singaporean who wants it.
WHAT IS BREATHE RIGHT SG?
Breathe Right SG is a movement by The Art of Living Singapore, built around one idea: that learning to breathe properly is one of the most useful things a person can do.
At its core is SKY Breath Meditation, a structured breathing practice taught in over 155 countries, over the last 45 years and backed by peer-reviewed research showing significant reductions in stress, anxiety, and emotional reactivity. [1,2]
The program runs as a workshop over 3-4 days, totalingabout 12 hours, led by trained facilitators. It is not a passive experience. You leave with a skill: a daily breathing practice you can use on your own, for the rest of your life, in any situation.
WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU BREATHE RIGHT?
When stress hits, the nervous system activates a threat-response. Breathing becomes shallow. Cortisol rises. The body allocates all its resources to dealing with the perceived emergency.
Most people in demanding lives exist in a mild version of this state for much of their day. It becomes background noise. They stop noticing it. But the body keeps the score.
